No More Room in Hell 2 is officially rated Playable on Steam Deck as of the August 13 launch update. It is not described there as Deck Verified. The Steam product has a native Windows build, while Deck runs that build through SteamOS compatibility; this is not evidence of a native Linux release. Expect to configure settings according to a preferred balance of performance and image quality.
Interpret the current status correctly
Older Proton Experimental reports can demonstrate historical interest but do not define Armageddon 1.0 behavior. Record the test date, game build, SteamOS channel, compatibility selection, Deck model, resolution, and frame target whenever sharing results.
Establish a safe first launch
Update SteamOS, restart the Deck, install the complete AppID 292000 download, and begin with Steam’s default compatibility choice. Do not force a different Proton version before the baseline unless the current compatibility details instruct it. Let shader or first-launch work finish before judging sustained gameplay.
Start in the Tutorial or Solo. Both avoid staking a persistent online Responder while input and performance are unknown; Solo also has zero permadeath. Confirm that menus fit the display, text is readable, the controller layout produces the shown actions, and the inventory wheel can be used without touch or keyboard intervention.
If the game fails only after a manual compatibility override, return to the default and retest. Change one layer at a time so the result identifies SteamOS, compatibility, game settings, or a local installation issue.
Tune for stable frame time
The official Windows minimum target is 1080p at 30 Hz on Low with Performance Super Sampling, but that desktop requirement is not a Deck preset. On Deck, begin conservatively: use the device’s native display resolution, a low visual baseline, and an upscaling mode exposed by the game, then observe a demanding combat or effects scene. These are test steps, not an official “best settings” claim.
Torn Banner optimized gore, impact effects, audio, shadows, lighting, model detail, and distance rendering for Armageddon. The 1.0 notes also add DLSS 4.5 for compatible RTX PCs, which does not make DLSS available on Deck hardware. Use only the upscaler options actually shown on the device.
Prefer a stable frame-time target over a high number visible in an empty room. Test a wave, clustered gore, firearm effects, and an interior/exterior transition. Record battery and thermal conditions because sustained results can differ from a short cold run.
Verify controller and UI behavior
No More Room in Hell 2 added native PC controller support for 1.0 and Steam lists Full Controller Support. Start with the default Deck layout and check movement, camera, melee variants, aim, firing, shove or kick, inventory, compass, interaction, voice, and pause navigation.
Launch week listed controllers losing focus on some UI elements, incorrect controller schemes for players with hidden Early Access data, random vibration, and a planned keybinding reset in Hotfix #1. Those fixes were announced as future work on August 13. If focus disappears, document the menu, action, layout, and whether touch temporarily restores access instead of declaring the issue fixed.
Wrong prompts
Return to the default layout, remove duplicate virtual inputs, and relaunch with the Deck controls active.
Menu focus loss
Capture the exact screen and preceding action; use touch only as a temporary navigation aid where safe.
Random vibration
Record the scene and action, then compare vibration enabled and disabled without changing other controls.
Unreadable text
Use the current UI-scale option if present and report the screen; do not lower rendering resolution until text becomes unusable.
Test online only after Solo is stable
The game’s Steam listing includes online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. After local performance and input are stable, use a low-value Responder on Beginner or Normal to test matchmaking, voice, latency, and Easy Anti-Cheat behavior. A Solo success does not prove server quality, while an online hitch does not automatically prove the Deck is underpowered.
Steam Cloud is listed for the game, but cloud storage is not a substitute for confirming that a sync completed before moving between PC and Deck. It also does not imply console cross-save. Let Steam finish synchronization and resolve any conflict carefully before launch.
Use Controller Support for input diagnosis, Crash Fixes for startup failures, and System Requirements for the official native Windows targets.
