Private Lobbies let a party of two or more No More Room in Hell 2 players matchmake privately instead of filling the run with strangers. Torn Banner introduced the feature specifically for friends-only play while retaining public encounters as the normal social experience. A private lobby is still an online match: it uses the game’s matchmaking and mission systems, not a locally hosted dedicated server.
Choose Private, Solo, or public matchmaking
The feature’s official announcement specifies parties of two or more. Do not use a one-player private queue as a substitute for Solo unless the current game UI explicitly allows it and completes the match. The documented single-player path is Solo.
Form the party before selecting the lobby
Start AppID 292000 on the current public build. Invite the friends who will deploy and wait until every participant appears in the party. For mixed Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series groups, enable crossplay for everyone before rebuilding invitations. Crossplay connects matches; it does not establish shared saves or purchases.
Choose one party leader and avoid overlapping invites from several members. The leader selects mode, map or mission option where available, difficulty, and the private setting. Before deployment, verify every member has an eligible Responder. Armageddon fixed a case so a squad leader should not be able to deploy when someone lacks a character, but the team should still confirm deliberately.
Use a low-risk first match after a new party setup. Beginner or Normal with replaceable Responders checks voice, server quality, privacy, and party persistence without risking a developed specialist.
Plan for a smaller squad
Private does not mean the mission becomes empty or that every objective disappears. Armageddon scales objective pressure based on the number of players remaining at its start, and wider difficulty systems adjust hordes dynamically. A smaller party still needs enough roles to carry, interact, defend, heal, and extract.
Assign overlapping responsibilities. In a two-player group, the carrier needs a compact emergency tool while the defender must be able to take over an interaction. In a larger private squad, divide lanes and support but keep a backup when a specialist is downed.
Supplies and progression remain team concerns. Share compatible ammunition, state infection immediately, and decide early-extraction rules before the run deteriorates. A friends-only lobby removes strangers, not permadeath.
Verify privacy and crossplay behavior
Party check
Every intended friend appears before queueing, and only one leader controls deployment.
Privacy check
The private option is visible in the current setup and remains selected after changing mode or difficulty.
Crossplay check
Mixed-platform members have crossplay enabled and remain shown in the same party.
Loaded roster
After entering, count the actual participants. If an unexpected player appears, document the setting and queue flow.
If privacy fails, capture party size, platforms, crossplay state, leader, selected mode, and the exact point where an unexpected player joined. Leave the run safely instead of testing repeatedly with valuable Responders.
Troubleshoot invitation and deployment failures
If an accepted invite does not create a visible party member, disband the incomplete group, let one leader create a fresh party, and send one invitation path at a time. A private setting cannot repair a participant who never joined the party.
If the party forms but cannot deploy, confirm each player selected a Responder and nobody is still in the Tutorial or another mode. Restart after a game update so versions match. A VPN was a known invitation problem in earlier official notes; if one is active and joining immediately fails, test without it while preserving ordinary network security.
If matchmaking stalls, switch the diagnosis to server and queue behavior. Record region, local time, party size, crossplay state, and wait duration. The August 13 post said matchmaking parameters had been adjusted and an Oceanic server added, so an old wait-time report is not a universal expectation.
Know what Private Lobbies do not prove
There is no current official evidence here for split-screen, local co-op, cross-save, a dedicated server tool, a selectable server browser, or self-hosted mods for AppID 292000. Search results for a No More Room in Hell dedicated server frequently belong to original AppID 224260 and its separate tool. Do not install that package for the newer game.
Use Crossplay for mixed-platform setup, Matchmaking for queue diagnosis, and Solo Mode when only one player wants a practice environment.
